Monthly Updates
October 2, 2025
Dear Colleagues,
As we continue to shape the San Francisco Bay Region Network (SFBRN), we know this work brings questions and, for many, understandable concern about what this change will mean in practice.
Over the past month, we’ve met with Academic Senates and teams across Information Technology (IT), Financial Services, Procurement, Accounts Payable (AP), and Human Resources (HR) to share progress, answer questions, and hear your feedback. We value these conversations and will continue to use them to shape both our communication and our implementation planning.
Current Highlights
- Scope of January 2026 Launch – The Presidents have confirmed that Information Technology, Procurement, and Accounts Payable will be the functional areas included in the January 30, 2026 implementation. Human Resources will be included next Spring, in alignment with the CSU’s Common Human Resources System (CHRS) rollout.
- Leadership Searches – Interviews are complete for the Interim Head of Network IT, with a start planned for mid-October. We’re also recruiting a Senior Director of Learning and Development to support change management, training, and upskilling for new roles.
- Business Process Mapping – Starting in October, we’ll begin business process mapping workshops with staff to document how services currently function — helping shape a more consistent, efficient design going forward.
- Organizational Models – We continue drafting and testing organizational models for the in-scope areas. At a high level, the structure will include: One Head each for Network IT, Network HR, and Network Financial Services. As shown below, the Director of Procurement and Accounts Payable will report to the Vice President of Regional Network Transformation until the Head of Financial Services assumes the role in the SFBRN.
Listening and Learning
Pulse Survey Highlights
Nearly 100 staff and faculty members responded— thank you. What we heard:
- Support for shared services, especially for improving consistency across campuses
- Concerns about workload, service flow, and staffing clarity
- A clear call for plain-language updates and easier access to information
We encourage you to continue submitting questions and comments through the Pulse Survey.
Quick Poll Results
- Nearly 50% of you selected written summaries with clear timelines as the most helpful communication method. You’ll now find those on the SFBRN FAQ page.
- The second most-selected option was briefings and Q&A sessions — which we’ll begin scheduling soon, starting with impacted teams.
To continue gathering input, we invite you to share your voice in this month’s quick poll in the Looking Ahead Together section.
